Arranging your own in-home care

Robin and Jane Loder recently employed Bright Care Brighton and Hove to provide in-home care services while Jane was in hospital and recovering after an operation. We spoke to them about their experience of using Bright Care to provide respite care.

Can you tell us a bit about yourself Robin?

Robin – I’m 81 years old, a double amputee with interests in horticulture and antiques. 

Why did you begin exploring in-home care services? 

Robin – There are many things I can’t do for myself. My wife Jane is very good at looking after me but she had a planned 10 night stay in hospital. I needed someone to provide respite care and help me with the things she usually does. I was looking for in-home care services to support us both while she recovered after her operation. 

Was anyone else involved in the decision making process? 

Robin – No, I looked up in-home care services on the internet, wrote to a few of them and Sam from Bright Care was the first to respond. She came out to see us the next day. 

What were you looking for from a care provider? 

Robin – We weren’t totally sure of what exactly we needed other than help getting me up in the morning. Our Carer Jennifer is very good, she gets me up and makes my breakfast, she tidies and does all the housework.

Jane – it’s lovely! 

How do you find the in-home care that Bright Care provides? 

Robin – As far as I’m concerned, it’s absolutely perfect. You’ve been more than excellent. The Care Assistants who have visited us have been so nice and they are willing to do everything. 

What impact has having regular in-home care visits has had on your life?

Jane – My life is suddenly lovely, you do everything and I do enjoy it!

Robin – It’s really useful having people to bring their brains on sight and using their initiative. We’d have no doubt in strongly recommending Bright Care to anyone looking for in-home care.
