New year, new job?

Perhaps one of your New Year’s resolutions is to find a new job? Maybe you are considering a rewarding career in care? We spoke to Lee, Branch Manager in Aberdeen about what she looks for when hiring a Care Assistant and why she would recommend Bright Care as a brilliant place to work.

Apply now.

  1. Can you introduce yourself?

My name is Lee and I am the Branch Manager for Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire. I started working with Bright Care 5 and a half years ago as an hourly carer for the Broughty Ferry Branch. I was then supported to undertake the Care Manager Role in Broughty Ferry in October 2019 and in March this year moved into the Branch Manager Role in Aberdeen. I started my work career in Childcare then moved into Retail Management, however after 15 years, I wanted more. I wanted to feel like I was making a difference in the community as well as having job satisfaction, so when I saw the advert for Bright Care, I just had to apply! To me this felt like what care should look like and I haven’t looked back.

  1. What are the key duties and responsibilities of a Care Assistant?

Our visits all start from two hours and our focus is on providing both care and companionship. There are many aspects of care support ranging from task processes such as personal care, medication, promoting independence to a more interactive social aspect such as going for a coffee, walk or simply just having a good old natter. No two clients are the same and the type of care support is dependent on each of our clients support needs.

Our carers are trained to the highest standard to ensure they follow company processes which support our clients to be safe and secure in their environment. Carers are also responsible for recording visits and ensuring their Care Manager is updated with any relevant changes.

  1. What qualities do you look for in a Care Assistant?

When hiring Care Assistants, we look for people who align with our own company values. They portray a “Can Do” attitude where they will seek out the best of themself to support our client’s choices and preferences. They “Own It” by taking responsibility for their own contribution and really taking ownership of the client’s package. Work as “One Team”, we have a team ethos to work and achieve outcomes Together! It takes a special kind of person to become a Bright Carer. We like to build relationships and one thing that attracts me to great candidates is the ability to converse naturally and are passionate about how and why they deliver care. Full training is provided so previous care experience is not required.

  1. Would you recommend Bright Care as an employer?

I would definitely recommend Bright Care as everyone lives and breathes its values. They are passionate about the service we deliver to our clients and ensure Care Plans are centred around each individual person. They look after their team and Champion People to develop and grow within the company supporting them each step of the way. We won Sunday Times Best Places to Work in 2024, we must be doing something right!
